Utuwana Beach

Did our first scuba-dive today. Started off in the shallows learning how to clear regulator and mask then we were whisked to the reef to do the dive.  Fairly nervous at first but after I started to see fish I found it OK, mind you it did help that  we were basically led round like dogs on leashes by our respective dive masters.  Whilst we were down there (45 minutes) we got to see many reef fishes, including a Stone Fish, Neons, Lion Fish and a large octopus.  A really good experience which gave me confidence to do a Padi course at a later time in Thailand.  However I will have to find a mask that can accommodate my big nose better!!

After a couple of beers and deciding I was now Jacque Cousteux, followed by a plate of grilled prawns and salad we then decided to take a walk to Jungle beach.

It was not exactly hacking through the rain forest with a machete , but more like a steep walk through a tropical garden complete with streams. However as we descended to the beach we were met with the sounds of drum beats and a stunning small sandy beach surrounded by jungle and palm trees.  It appears that this is a little retreat for the locals to escape the tourists.

We finished the day with a nice Daal curry and a couple of beers in some chilled out Shisha lounges before heading home.  Tomorrow we head off for Mantara.

  1. Sounds tiring and VAT returns being dropped by carrier pigeon to your next destination - enjoy Alan
