Day 1 – South Island & Waikawa
We had arranged a late check-out for today as we had to
sleep off our steaks and also we had booked a ferry to take us to the South
Island in the early afternoon. We
thought we would make our stay in North Island slightly short as we only had the
west coast to visit and as the weather wasn’t great we didn’t think it was
really beach weather!!
Checking out around midday we then headed for a nearby
supermarket where we picked up some groceries for later in the day (we had
booked self-catering accommodation) before heading for the ferry terminal.
We queued up for the ferry and drove on around 2pm, and
went upstairs and found a couple of sofa’s in the lounge where we read (Shell)
and caught up on some blogging (Glenn).
The ferry trip was fairly long considering you could see
between the two Islands, but it had to follow the channel very slowly from
Wellington to Picton. However it did
give me some time to catch up on the blogging and also to pop outside and get a
few photo’s of the scenery along the way.
Arriving at Picton we then drove the short distance to
Waikawa where we had booked a cabin on a campsite. The cabin was very cosy and we were pretty
pleased not to be in Muriel or worse still a tent.
In the evening we just cooked ourselves a meal and
watched a bit of TV before bed.
