So here we are already, it’s hard to believe it’s been one
year since we were sitting at Heathrow airport, waiting for our flight to Shri
Lanka. Our lives packed away in boxes, jobless and homeless through choice. Would
we do it again? YES YES YES! Do we want to come home yet? NO!
Brexit and Trump! The western world has gone mad! We
honestly thought both were hoaxes when they were drip fed to us through online
media. World please sort yourself out, or at least try and gain some control
before we get back. Please?
And it seems the world is now a little lighter on talent: Bowie,
Prince, Alan Rickman, Victoria wood and even old Terry Wogan, Miss World and
the Eurovision will never be the same! We are enjoying our protective travel
bubble and despite Brexit weakening the pound and killing our budget, we have
decided to delay our return until March. YAY! We will miss our family and
friends at Christmas, but when will we truly have the freedom to do this again?
A couple of newlyweds we met, after finding out that we had
been travelling for a year together, asked us what we had found out about each
other. We looked at each other quizzically and finally answered, nothing. In
truth, when you have been together for nearly 10 years you already know each
other’s foibles and quirks. I still get ratty when I’m tired, Glenn still has a
low tolerance of stupid people and banks. The only real thing to come out of it is Glenn
can’t hide behind the ‘I can’t cook’ thing any longer. He makes a mean Chilli,
I just need to introduce him to some more recipes!
We tend to use each other’s strengths and allocate chores
accordingly. Anything people related is me, anything financial related is
Glenn. And planning we do together, it works!
It’s amazing to think what we have achieved in 12 months of
traveling. Only when we look back through pics and blogs do we really
appreciate what we’ve experienced together. We’ve visited numerous islands and 14
different countries with multiple languages and cultures. We’ve climbed mountains, volcano’s and been
engulfed by sulphuric clouds. We’ve experienced numerous sunsets and sunrises
and temples aplenty. Thrown ourselves
out of planes, bungees and rafted grade 3’s. We’ve faced Komodo Dragons, bears,
Orangutans, elephants, Cassowaries, Rhino’s and more. Been attacked by killer cows, monkeys and survived Baboo. We’ve
dived with turtles, sharks and whale sharks. And we’ve laughed a lot! All of
this with still another 4 months left on our journey together to discover what
South and Central America has to offer.
So, Brexit, Trump, you have 4 months to sort your shit out
or we are going to live in Oz!
(not really Mum and Sandy)
