Rainbow Beach

 One Day Stop Over

On leaving Hervey Bay we had a day before we had to get to Brisbane so we decided to stop off for one night at Rainbow Beach which was about 90k down the coast (South).

After packing up and picking up some supplies at the local Bottleo and supermarket we started off on the road, listening to our talkie book along the way.  It wasn’t long before we hit some hills which we had to get Muriel to get a run up for. The countryside was nice but there were large area’s which had been logged along the way.

Arriving at Rainbow Beach it looked as though the campsite next to the beach was fully booked, but on enquiring at reception they said there was one small powered site that we could have.  We parked up in our spot only to find that our power cable was not long enough which meant we had to spin poor Muriel around and practically park her in the tree next to us so that we could have electricity!

Once we had set up camp we then headed for the beach, which as usual was a long stretch of beautiful golden sand.  As it was so nice we then took our throws down onto the beach and had a quick swim, the water it starting to get colder now.  I also made sure I stayed in the shallows with at least a couple of people further out than me. It was only 90k up the coast on Fraser Island where we had spotted sharks in the surf line, so I wasn’t taking any chances!

For the rest of the afternoon we spent the time reading on the beach, sleeping (Shell) and creating sand sculptures (Glenn) until the sun started dropping and it became a bit colder.

We then had a brief walk through the small town before returning to the campsite where we cooked some food, had a few drinks and listened to some music before going to bed.
