Bateman's Bay

Day 1 – Road to Melbourne

It was around 800 – 900km to Melbourne so we had decided to break the journey up a bit, we were considering stopping at Canberra but as there appeared to be little to do there and the fact that accommodation was really expensive we headed instead to the coastal town of Bateman’s Bay.

After saying our goodbyes to Bondy we hit the road for a journey of 3-4 hours which took us down the coast to Bateman’s Bay.  Shell had found some cheaper accommodation in a cabin on a campsite which seemed OK, however on checking in we were told bedding was not included and that we would have to pay extra for this!!

The cabin was pretty basic but would be OK for the night, so after unpacking we headed for the shopping centre where we picked up some drinks and food for an evening meal.

We returned to the cabin to unload our supplies then thought we would go an check out Bateman’s Bay.  Parking up in town we went for a short walk around and checked out the Bay area, being fairly un-impressed we jumped back into the car and decided to go for a drive.

Driving along the coast road we saw a few nice beaches and small towns but nothing really looked like it was worth getting out of the car for, so after taking a few photo’s we headed back to the cabin.

For the rest of the day we just relaxed, cooked up one of my now famous chili’s for our evening meal and watched a bit of TV before going to bed.
