Day 1
As we had assigned the next day to all things mundane, it
was decided that after yet another long, this time 7hr bus ride, checking back
into our Trekkers Home Hotel that we should rest our weary bones in one of the
local watering holes.
We quickly bundled up our dirty trekking clothes and
deposited them at the local laundry then it was on to the Buddha bar, then
after being told there was no happy hour specials, we moved on somewhere else,
somewhere else, a bit of food and somewhere else, etc., etc. until our legs
were totally relaxed from the trekking!!
I vaguely also remember some local bands, which generally
consist of three people and no more, Singer/Guitarist, Bass Player and Percussionist. Most of which generally have similar sets
which include ‘Yellow – Coldplay’ and “Wonderwall - Oasis” , but every now and then they will surprise
you with a Doors/Creedence Clearwater/Passenger number.
At some point we went to bed happy in the knowledge that
there would be no trekking the next day.
Day 2
We woke with slightly sore heads (we believe that this is in
some way because of the chemicals that make up Everest Beer, clearly not the
amount of them we have consumed!!) and go out for a bit of breakfast before
tackling our last 7 days of blogging.
Taking it in turns to put the last
seven days into words and trying to eek out beers at a very slow rate, we
lasted about 3 hours (and we were only half way through it) before we thought
we would have a change of scenery!
A short way back down the road and
we were back it one of our favourite bars (Jatra – conveniently across the road
from our hotel), where we spent the next three hours completing the monster
trekking blog (In the end by candlelight as there was another power cut by the
time we had finished) before going back to pick up our laundry – clean clothes,
yay!!!
During this period we also received DHLed replacement phone and SIM cards - thanks Gareth - you are a star!!!
The plan for the evening was to
have a nice meal and a couple of beers before having an early night (as we were
heading to India next day). The meal
part of the plan went OK, however as usual the couple of beers part – not so
well. In our final ‘one for the road’
pub (where for the past hour we had been propping up the live band by
ourselves!), Shelley suddenly acquired a new friend in the form of a cute
little dog that had jumped on the bench seat between us and had settled in for
the night (Fortunately Bar owner collects the dog at the end of the night,
before Shelley takes it home!).
The bar now started filling up a
bit and we ended up making some other new friends, two Irish guys (Bob &
Dave?) and their new friend, Paul? who they had met on their trek and who had
returned with them. We spent the rest of
the evening chatting to these guys – basically them ribbing us as they had done
a much longer/harder trek (The ABC Trek), but we had the last laugh as they
were going home the next day and we have another 11 months off!
After a few more beers we head
home for the night – India (New Delhi) tomorrow!
