Lake Tinaroo

Day 1 – Here Comes the Rain

This morning we had breakfast and packed up whilst watching and listening to the parrots flying around the trees, we were quite sad to be leaving this camp site.  Our plan for the day was to drive and stay at a place called Lake Tinaroo and stay there for a couple of days to chill out and get some washing done.

Muriel was happy as we were heading down the mountains, however we always worry about things flying out of cupboards when negotiating twisty bends in the road.

An hour or two later we stopped in Athertown, a town close to Lake Tinaroo where we went to the reject shop where Shell finally found the fairy lights she wanted to put inside Muriel.  We walked around for a bit before finding a drive-thru beer shop to top up the bar.

Next up was to find a Woolworth’s (Aussie version of Asda) so we could stock up our fridge for the next couple of days.  After shopping Shell noticed a shop that did bedding so we bought a new cotton duvet set as the cheap one we had previously bought seemed to be 100% polyester and extremely sweaty!!

We then headed to try and find our camp site and we drove without sat-nav, so after getting slightly lost and a slight fuel scare we eventually reached our destination.

Our first impressions after checking in were not great as the site felt too polished and very family/kiddie orientated, it also didn’t help that there was some odd starey women with a large dog in a nearby plot.

After setting up the van and having our normal arrival drink we had a look around the facilities and Shell did some laundry whilst I did some blogging (I think?).  We then relaxed for a while but were not that impressed as there were a couple of families next to us who had very noisy irritating kids!!

A bit later in the afternoon the rain came in which meant gathering in what laundry was dry, mostly Shell’s small stuff, hoping that the rain would blow over shortly.

The rain did not really stop so the rest of the day was spent relaxing, eating and watching some downloaded TV until it was time to sleep.

Day 2 – More of the Same

Not happy as woken up by screaming annoying brats around 6am, what is wrong with parents??

Where we had hoped to relax, take walks around the lake and maybe hire a boat did not materialise as again the weather was overcast and wet again so the morning was spent, blogging, reading and trying to get the rest of our clothes dry.

Later in the afternoon, when it was not raining we thought we should at least venture to check out the lake, so we had a short walk up to it and had a look round,  taking a few pics before heading back to the van.

A quick note, Shell’s idea for decorating the inside of the van with fairy lights was a good one as it makes it very cosy inside and provides some good reading light.  Also I found yet another use for the Velcro we bought as it secures the light switches nicely to the inside of the van on our respective sleeping sides.

In the evening we cooked our dinner and just relaxed (tried to because of the screaming kids!) and had a few drinks before going to sleep.
